North Island Golf Courses
Te Arai Links
NORTHLAND · TWO COASTAL LINKS COURSES
Te Arai Links offers two distinctive 18-hole courses on the coast north of Auckland.
The South Course was designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, while the North Course was designed by Tom Doak. Both make use of the property’s natural sand dunes, coastal views and firm fescue playing surfaces.
Golfers can play both courses while staying at Te Arai or incorporate a round into a journey between Auckland and the Bay of Islands.
The two layouts offer enough contrast to justify more than one round, particularly for travellers building a dedicated North Island golf itinerary.
Best suited to: Serious golfers, couples and groups wanting a contemporary links experience with accommodation close to the courses.
Cape Kidnappers
HAWKE’S BAY · CLIFFTOP GOLF AND WINE COUNTRY
Cape Kidnappers is an 18-hole, par-71 course designed by Tom Doak and set high above the Pacific Ocean.
Its fairways cross rolling farmland before reaching dramatic ridgelines and cliff-edge holes. The exposed setting means wind can become an important part of the challenge.
Rosewood Cape Kidnappers provides accommodation on the surrounding working farm, allowing golf to be combined with Hawke’s Bay wineries, regional dining, Art Deco Napier and wildlife experiences.
Best suited to: Golfers who appreciate strategic course design, dramatic scenery and a longer food-and-wine stay.
What About Tara Iti?
MANGAWHAI · PRIVATE MEMBERS’ COURSE
Tara Iti is a private golf club designed by Tom Doak and located near Te Arai Links.
Access is controlled by the club and is generally limited to members and invited guests. For this reason, Timeless NZ does not present a round at Tara Iti as guaranteed.
If you already have confirmed access or an appropriate introduction, we can design the surrounding transport and accommodation around your tee time. Otherwise, Te Arai Links provides two exceptional coastal courses with established visitor arrangements.
Rosewood Kauri Cliffs
BAY OF ISLANDS · COASTAL CHAMPIONSHIP COURSE
Designed by David Harman, the par-72 championship course at Kauri Cliffs occupies a spectacular setting above the Pacific Ocean.
The course moves through farmland, native vegetation and elevated coastal terrain, with ocean views accompanying much of the round.
Staying at Rosewood Kauri Cliffs allows time to enjoy the lodge, golf course and surrounding Northland landscape without turning the experience into a rushed day trip. Non-golfing companions can enjoy spa treatments, walks, beaches and other lodge activities.
Best suited to: Couples, golf groups and travellers wanting to combine a recognised coastal course with an exceptional lodge stay.
The Kinloch Club
LAKE TAUPŌ · JACK NICKLAUS SIGNATURE COURSE
The Kinloch Club is New Zealand’s only Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course.
Its inland layout uses the natural volcanic terrain near Lake Taupō, with rolling fairways, pronounced bunkering and greens that reward careful course management.
Kinloch can be combined with a stay beside the course or with one of the wider Taupō region’s luxury lodges. The location also works well connecting Auckland, Rotorua, Taupō and Hawke’s Bay.
Best suited to: Golfers seeking a demanding inland course and travellers exploring the central North Island.
South Island Golf Courses
Clearwater Golf Club
CHRISTCHURCH · CHAMPIONSHIP RESORT COURSE
Clearwater offers an 18-hole championship course close to Christchurch Airport and the city.
The course combines parkland and links-style features, with lakes, streams and strategic water hazards influencing much of the round. Multiple tee positions allow it to be played by golfers with different levels of experience.
Its location makes Clearwater a convenient first or final round within a South Island itinerary.
Best suited to: Travellers passing through Christchurch, mixed-ability golf groups and those wanting an accessible championship course.
Millbrook Resort
ARROWTOWN · TWO CHAMPIONSHIP COURSES
Millbrook Resort has two complete 18-hole courses: the Remarkables and Coronet layouts.
Both are surrounded by an alpine amphitheatre near Arrowtown, but they offer different playing experiences. Staying at Millbrook allows golfers to play more than one round while enjoying the resort’s accommodation, restaurants, spa and extensive grounds.
The resort also regularly hosts major golf events, including the New Zealand Open.
Best suited to: Couples and groups wanting golf, accommodation, dining and spa facilities together in one resort.
Jack’s Point
QUEENSTOWN · LAKE AND MOUNTAIN GOLF
Designed by John Darby, Jack’s Point follows the natural terrain between Lake Wakatipu and The Remarkables.
The course moves through tussock grasslands, native vegetation and rocky schist landscapes, with five teeing areas on every hole allowing golfers to select an appropriate level of challenge.
Its exposed position means weather and wind can change the character of the round, while its proximity to Queenstown makes it easy to combine with dining, wine touring and other private experiences.
Best suited to: Golfers wanting a dramatic alpine setting and a course that remains enjoyable across different playing abilities.
The Hills
ARROWTOWN · PRIVATE CLUB WITH LIMITED VISITOR PLAY
The Hills is a championship course near Arrowtown, known for combining golf with an extensive collection of large-scale outdoor sculpture.
The course developed from Sir Michael Hill’s private golf property and remains a members’
club. A limited number of visitor bookings may be available by prior arrangement.
Availability should be requested early and cannot be assumed until confirmed by the club.
Best suited to: Experienced golfers seeking a more exclusive round and travellers interested in art, landscape and course design.
Queenstown as a Golf Base
Queenstown is particularly well suited to travellers who want several rounds without changing accommodation continually.
Jack’s Point, Millbrook and The Hills are all within reach, while additional local courses provide options for more relaxed rounds.

Travelling With Your Golf Clubs
You may travel with your own clubs or request hire equipment at selected courses.
If you bring your clubs, we consider vehicle space and domestic airline baggage allowances when planning your journey. Oversized baggage conditions and fees vary between airlines and should be checked before tickets are issued.
Club-hire brands, shaft options and availability differ by course, so advance requests are recommended.
The Best Time for Golf in New Zealand
Golf can be played in New Zealand throughout much of the year, although conditions vary between regions.
Spring, summer and autumn generally provide the widest choice of courses and longer daylight hours. North Island courses tend to have milder conditions, while Queenstown and other southern locations can experience frost, snow or reduced availability during winter.
Wind, rain and course maintenance can affect play at any time. We recommend allowing some flexibility when golf is a major reason for your journey.
Green Fees and Course Access
Green fees, visitor policies and inclusions change regularly. For this reason, we confirm the current price directly with each course when preparing your proposal.
Some courses welcome visitors throughout the season, while private clubs may offer only limited outside play. Requested tee times remain subject to confirmation.
Your itinerary will clearly show the confirmed green fee and whether carts, caddies, club hire or other services are included.
